Trade representative about the share of payments in national currencies between Russia and Iran

Tehran, December 26 – RIA NEWS. The share of payments in national currencies between Russia and Iran has exceeded 50%, reports Russia’s trade representative in Iran Rustam Zhiganshin.

Earlier Russian president Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow and Tehran agreed to boost extension of direct payments in national currencies. President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, in his turn, also said that it would facilitate extension of relations, while Abdolnaser Khemmati, head of Iranian Central Bank, stressed the break with USD payments in both countries.

“If in 2018 the share of payments in the national currencies was just a little above 40%, in 2019 it is more than 50%”, says Mr. Zhiganshin.

He added that payments in the national currencies were relevant for trade and economic relations of Russia and Iran.

The trade representative also touched upon the commodity turnover: In the first ten months of this year it increased by 21% compared to the same period of the last year, amounting to $1.67 billion, which is close to the turnover for the entire last year. In 2018 it amounted to about $1.7 billion.

According to him, Russia exports sunflower oil, corn, barley, mutton, and in addition to agricultural products - lumber, electrical equipment, rolled steel, freight railroad cars.

Iran specializes on chilled cheeses, cucumbers, tomatoes, kiwi, cabbage, grapes, dried fruits, raisins, pistachios and other fruits and vegetables.
